When you no longer need constant care, but it’s not yet safe to go home, the swing bed program is here to help. Swing bed is a comprehensive, skilled care, intravenous therapy, and rehabilitation program that provides transitional care for patients who may need additional medical help following an illness or surgery. Swing bed is available right in our hospital, allowing you to stay close to home and near friends and family as you recover.
Our goal through swing bed is for you to return home safely with the physical and occupational function you’ll need. A typical swing bed stay averages one to two weeks.
During your stay, your physician directs your care and works closely with our team of nurses, nurse discharge coordinator, therapists, nursing assistants, social workers, dietitians, and other medical staff to give you access to:
- 24-hour nursing care
- Pain management
- IV treatments
- Patient education
- Wound care
- Rehabilitation services
- Coordinated care and services before your return home
Swing bed offers solutions for many types of health situations—from the orthopedic patient who isn’t quite strong enough for stairs at home, to the patient recovering from a stroke who needs a little more time to recover. If you’ve had a procedure at another hospital, you may want to participate in the swing bed program here, closer to home. Please don’t hesitate to contact us to learn more at (712) 722-8152.
