“It was a God thing.” This is how Gert Jansen views the path that took her to living in Crown Pointe. She moved into the independent living community in May of 2014 shortly after Ed, her husband of 72 ½ years, passed. It was hard for her to make the move into a senior living community, but Gert wishes she and Ed would have moved sooner and been able to enjoy Crown Pointe together.

“Ed would have loved Crown Pointe! He loved to play pool, work in the garden and visit with people. He was a talker! If we would have moved a little earlier, it would have been alright. He would have really enjoyed it and the house was just too much for us.”

When Gert moved into Crown Pointe Independent living, she really enjoyed the size of the room and the neighbors. In fact, one of her neighbors was a neighbor when she and Ed lived on the farm. It really created a sense of community for her.

Gert enjoys being able to be active within the senior living community with the various activities and socializing events. She also has enjoyed keeping track of her family’s genealogies and takes comfort in playing the piano. She has played the piano for all sorts of events and has sheets and sheets tracking each time she was asked to play. She plays her own piano in her apartment, but appreciates the baby grand piano in the entrance to Crown Pointe. Gert only took 5 piano lessons when she was eight years old from her aunt and then stopped as she was able to listen to a song and then play it by ear. Gert gives the Lord all the credit for her gifts and talents. “It isn’t me, it is a talent I was given.  He is getting the entire honor and the privilege.”

Gert lived in independent living for three years before transitioning to assisted living. She was grateful that she was already living in the senior living community and received priority for an apartment that was available. She shared that the staff is so wonderful and it is the best place to be.
