Sioux Center Health is excited to partner with Northwest Iowa Community College in offering a Certified Nurse Aide training course at Royale Meadows.
The course will take place from March 19 – May 4 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4 pm – 9:30 pm. The last week includes Saturday, May 4 from 6:30 am – 12 pm.
Sessions have 30 minute lunch break. 75 (76 for fast track) hours total; 30 hours lecture, 30 hours clinical, and 15 hours of lab time.
Certified Nurse Aides play a key role as members of the comprehensive healthcare team in a variety of medical settings. If you want to provide personal care, compassion and empathy for patients, this may be the career for you! CNA’s provide personal hygiene care for patients including bathing, feeding, and dressing. Infection control to prevent the spread of germs; dietary care to provide adequate nutrition for your patients; reporting as a frontline key member of the patient’s healthcare team including vital signs, as well as other necessary observations; and emotional support are also part of this important career.
Where will I get a job?
You would be working at Sioux Center Health’s long-term care facility, Royal Meadows in Sioux Center. The shift hours are 2:30 pm – 10:30 pm or 9:45 pm – 7:15 am.

75 Hour Certified Nurse Aide
This course is 75 hours in length and meets the requirements for taking the Nursing Assistant Certification Exam which is designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed to care for patients in a variety of long-term care facilities. This course involves 75 hours of training: 30 hours of classroom instruction, 15 hours lab training, and 30 hours clinical experience in long term care. This course offers 3 hours of college credit. Training includes the textbook, materials, and costs of certification skills and written tests. The student will need to have uniform/scrubs, white shoes and a watch with a second hand for the clinical portion of the training. After completing the course you will need to schedule Nurse Aide Testing for competency and skills. Testing is offered monthly through Continuing Education at NCC and appointments are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis.
As of July 1, 2010, criminal background checks will be required on each student enrolling in the certified nurse aide course. The criminal background checks will be completed on the first night of class during the orientation period. Criminal convictions or documented history of abuse may prevent students from participating in the clinical education experience. Students unable to participate in clinical education will be unable to complete the course requirements. The Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA) regulations can be found on their website.
