When you were younger, staying fit and healthy were your top priority. However, as time passed it started becoming more and more difficult to put in the same amount of work into yourself as you did before when you were younger. Although you are struggling with finding the time, motivation and energy to stay healthy and fit, it does not mean you should give up altogether. Staying healthy and fit is a daily struggle no matter who you are which is why we have created some tips to help you keep your heart healthy.
Eat Healthy Foods
Eating healthy is one of the ways to reduce your risk of heart disease. You will need to be eating a lot less meat, dairy and using less saturated fats. Not only will you be reducing your intake of saturated fats, but you will also need to start cutting down on salt while eating at least 2 or more cups of vegetables and fruit a day and eating more grains. By changing your diet, you will be keeping your heart healthy while reducing your chances of having a stroke, diabetes, lowering your cholesterol, blood pressure and more.
Working 40+ hours, caring for others, finding time to eat and grocery shop, go to school events, do college homework, socialize, work out and so on is something that goes on in every adult’s life. Finding time to do anything for ourselves can be difficult, but it is not impossible which is why it is highly recommended to continue keeping a workout regimen no matter how old we are. As adults, it is recommended to work out at least 30 minutes a day for five or more days a week to stay healthy. If you feel that you do not have the time to exercise for at least 30 minutes a day then you can also break it up into 10-minute workouts. In addition to being active, be sure to avoid sitting for prolonged periods of time because it can slow your metabolism, cause blood pressure and more.
Adults deal with stress all of the time, but that does not mean that you can allow it to take over your life and affect your well-being. When you are dealing with a lot of stress, it is best to step away from the situation and go somewhere and relax even if you are at your workplace. By leaving a stressful situation, you are ensuring that you are caring for your mental and physical health. Another way to reduce stress is to unplug from the world daily which means that you have to get away from all electronics. The best way to destress is to take a step back from all the hustle and bustle of everyday life and just find a place where you can be calm and get your happy-time.
Flossing your teeth is the simplest task you will ever do, but it is almost always ignored by most people despite the warnings of their dentists. Flossing your teeth not only removes plaque, bacteria and keeps your teeth and gums healthy but it also helps your heart. If you ignore your dentist’s warnings, then you are more at risk of allowing bacteria to enter the root of your tooth while allowing it to travel to your bloodstream and then entering the rest of your body. As a result, the bacteria can clog up your heart’s arteries which then can cause your heart to weaken, develop inflammation and can cause an attack.
All your life you have been told to sleep 8 hours a day, when you were younger you were told to take your nap and now as an adult, you’re daydreaming about napping and sleeping. When you sleep enough hours, you feel amazing all day long. However, when you don’t sleep as much you feel drained and exhausted all day long. When you lose sleep, it does not necessarily mean that you are going to become sick with heart problems. But when you are skipping sleep or you are getting less than six hours of sleep, you are increasing the risk factors for heart disease. Instead of postponing bedtime to binge Netflix, do work or go out, head to bed. Your heart will appreciate it.
Seeing a doctor for a checkup is also important in keeping yourself healthy. If you are having any problems or you feel differently then it is always best to make an appointment to see your doctor. A doctor can go check you out and tell you if you are starting to develop any problems. Your doctor will also be able to refer you to other doctors and give you advice on how to care for yourself to guarantee that your heart stays healthy.Leave a reply →
